Job summary

Ringway Jacobs is seeking an ITS Design Engineer to join the team in Chelmsford. You will design ITS solutions including pedestrian crossings, signal junctions, CCTV and driver messaging signs, and support feasibility studies and third‑party ITS proposals across the County.

You will work on verifying and configuring ITS controllers, writing specifications, and reviewing third‑party designs, while following health and safety regulations and quality procedures.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with traffic signal control strategies (VA, UTC/SCOOT, MOVA).
• Ability to write controller configuration forms and ITS technical specifications.
• Capacity to perform ITS technical reviews of third‑party designs.
• Knowledge of ITS standards and specifications.
• Awareness of Health and Safety legislation including CDM Regulations.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver ITS designs and specification documents for tender and construction.
• Answer and discuss technical questions and proposals relating to ITS and Traffic Engineering.
• Engage with clients and teams to resolve issues across the supply chain.
• Comply with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures in IMS.
• Assist in management and monitoring of works programmes.
• Take responsibility for hours spent on projects and support budget control.
• Support the Essex Highways team in delivering a safer, greener place to live.
