Job summary

Cathcart Technology is seeking an IT Infrastructure Operations Leader in Glasgow on a 12-month fixed-term contract. You will lead a global infrastructure engineering team, ensuring delivery of reliable IT services and driving operational maturity.

The role emphasizes people leadership, service delivery and continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment. The position involves guiding engineers, overseeing BAU, managing priorities and ensuring incidents, changes, and initiatives are delivered

• Manage BAU activities, escalations and smaller infrastructure initiatives.
• Monitor service performance against SLAs and KPIs and drive improvements.
• Ensure changes follow change, security and operational processes with minimal disruption.
• Identify and manage operational risks and dependencies.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders and communicate performance.
• Drive efficiency, reliability and overall delivery of infrastructure services.

Job description

IT Infrastructure Operations Leader required on a 12-month fixed term contract to lead an infrastructure engineering team within a leading international organisation in Glasgow. This is a key role responsible for supporting a global team of Infrastructure engineers, whilst overseeing the delivery of critical IT Infrastructure Services, driving operational stability, and ensuring the organisation’s technology foundations continue to evolve in line with business needs.

The Role

You will take a leading role in managing and developing a global infrastructure engineering team, ensuring engineers are supported, priorities are effectively managed, and technology services are delivered to a consistently high standard.

This role sits at the intersection of people leadership, service delivery, and operational improvement. You will help create a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, while ensuring the team has the structure, direction, and support required to deliver effectively.

While this isn’t a hands-on engineering position, you’ll need a strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure environments and the operational challenges involved in supporting them. You’ll provide direction to engineers, oversee BAU activities, manage competing priorities and ensure incidents, changes and technical initiatives are delivered effectively.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Leading and developing an infrastructure engineering team, providing coaching, performance management and regular 1-2-1s.
• Overseeing the delivery of infrastructure services across server, compute, networking, storage, backup and collaboration environments.
• Managing BAU activities, technical escalations and smaller infrastructure initiatives, ensuring work is prioritised and allocated effectively.
• Monitoring service performance against SLAs and KPIs, identifying areas for improvement and addressing service delivery challenges.
• Ensuring infrastructure changes follow appropriate change management, security and operational processes, minimising disruption to business services.
• Identifying and managing operational risks, technical dependencies and resource constraints.
• Building strong relationships with stakeholders and providing confidence around service performance and improvements.
• Identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, reliability, and the overall delivery of infrastructure services

What They’re Looking For

• Proven experience leading infrastructure, IT operations or technical support teams
• A strong technical understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure, ideally covering server and compute environments, networking, storage, backups and collaboration technologies.
• Strong people leadership skills, with a track record of developing and motivating technical teams
• Experience delivering high-quality IT services within a complex organisation
• Ability to manage competing priorities and drive improvements in a fast-paced environment
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across technical and business teams
• Experience managing escalations and ensuring successful outcomes
• Understanding of IT service management principles and operational processes
• Experience working with Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira, ServiceNow, Azure DevOps, or similar would be beneficial
