Job summary

CIL is seeking an IT Apprentice to start their career in technology with hands-on experience. You’ll join a small IT team, gain exposure to IT support, cloud administration and security, and work toward a Level 3 apprenticeship qualification in a cloud-first Microsoft 365 environment.

You’ll be office-based in Frome with regular travel to London, training on Entra ID, Intune, Defender for Endpoint, Exchange Online, SharePoint and Teams, and mentoring throughout.

Qualifications

• GCSEs at grades 9–4 (A*-C) including English and Maths or willingness to study towards Functional Skills English/Maths.
• Interest in IT and technology; enthusiastic about building a career in the field.
• Good written and verbal communication; comfortable with customer-facing roles.
• Methodical, curious approach to problem-solving.
• Proactive and able to work independently and in a team.
• Able to quickly learn new tools and technologies, including AI-assisted methods.

Responsibilities

• Provide first-line IT support to staff across offices via the helpdesk system.
• Assist with device lifecycle management: building, provisioning and enrolling laptops into Intune and Entra ID.
• Maintain user accounts, groups and licensing across Microsoft 365 (Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams).
• Support monitoring of security tooling (Microsoft Defender for Endpoint) and escalate anomalies.
• Manage printers, peripherals and AV/Teams Rooms setups across offices.
• Maintain asset registers, runbooks and knowledge base articles.
• Assist with onboarding/offboarding in coordination with HR.
• Build fluency with AI tools (Microsoft Copilot and Claude) as part of daily work.
• Contribute to wider infrastructure projects and learn from senior team members.
• Complete apprenticeship coursework and off-the-job training toward Level 3 standard.
