Job summary

Octopus Energy Ltd is seeking an embedded software engineer to develop and maintain firmware for our connected devices. You will join a dedicated cross-functional team delivering IoT features for customers and internal use.

The role emphasizes ownership of firmware, modular design, and high-quality code. You will collaborate with hardware, cloud, and security teams, participating in reviews and OTA update implementations.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in C for real-time operation on constrained microcontrollers.
• Hands-on RTOS experience (FreeRTOS) in embedded environments.
• Fluency in scripting languages (Python, Bash) and Git version control.
• Ability to read schematics and data sheets for hardware/software debugging.

Responsibilities

• Write well-structured, testable, efficient software for Octopus' connected devices.
• Collaborate within cross-functional teams on key products for customers and internal teams.
• Own IoT products and features; deliver high-quality, modular, maintainable code.
• Manage tickets and development efforts with hardware and software teams.
• Work with customer-facing and software teams to investigate bugs and implement features.
• Participate in code reviews and maintain high coding standards.
• Flexibly contribute across projects to meet deadlines.
• Willingness to learn new technologies as required.
