Job summary

Orion Electrotech Ltd seeks a Senior Firmware Engineer to join our IoT firmware team in Cambridge. Lead a small team to develop embedded software for sensors and devices, and integrate with cloud services like AWS IoT Core.

You will collaborate with hardware engineers to deliver robust, efficient code and support ongoing testing and validation processes. Proficiency in C/C++ and Python, STM32 experience, and familiarity with MQTT/LoRaWAN are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Mid to senior level engineer with strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python.
• Strong experience with STM32 microcontrollers and ARM Cortex-M toolchains.
• Familiarity with IoT protocols such as MQTT and LoRaWAN.
• Experience with cloud integration, preferably AWS IoT Core.
• Excellent debugging skills for hardware and firmware issues.
• Experience with Git and CI/CD practices.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to firmware development and share knowledge.
• Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for IoT devices using C/C++ and Python.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration between firmware and hardware.
• Implement and optimise communication protocols such as MQTT and LoRaWAN.
• Integrate firmware solutions with cloud platforms, such as AWS IoT Core.
• Analyse and debug complex hardware and firmware issues.
• Maintain existing codebases, improving documentation and code quality.
• Implement version control practices, CI/CD and static code analysis.
