Job summary

Howden is offering a permanent apprenticeship to kick‑start your career in insurance. You will join the Personal Lines & Commercial teams with a structured induction and gradual progression, gaining hands‑on experience and professional training.

The 18‑month development programme covers technical knowledge, professional skills and confidence building, with learning aimed at long‑term success in the insurance industry. No prior insurance experience is required.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths grade C/4 (or higher).
• Full, unrestricted right to work in the UK.
• Lived in the UK for the last 3 years.
• Final year student or recent school/college leaver.

Responsibilities

• Learn foundations of insurance, customer service and sales through hands-on experience and structured training.
• Support colleagues in finding suitable insurance solutions for clients.
• Develop written client correspondence and communications.
• Build relationships and provide excellent customer service to clients and insurers.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and assist with policy renewals.

Ready to earn, learn and launch your career? This is more than your first job. You’ll gain real experience, work towards a recognised Level 3 insurance qualification and build skills that will shape your future.

Our Personal Lines and Commercial team help individuals, families and local businesses find insurance that protects the things that matter most to them. This could include cover for homes, cars and health, as well as insurance that helps businesses manage risks and unexpected events.

You’ll join one of the following teams: Client Servicing, Claims, Insurance Sales or Renewals, where you’ll learn how we support clients throughout their insurance journey.

You’ll join Howden on a permanent role and complete an 18-month development programme designed to develop your technical knowledge, professional skills and confidence to kick start your career.

What you’ll be doing?

You will begin with a structured induction before joining our Personal Lines & Commercial team, where you will work alongside experienced colleagues and gradually take on more responsibility.

During the programme, you'll:

• Learn the foundations of insurance, customer service and sales through hands‑on experience and structured training.
• Support colleagues in finding suitable insurance solutions for new and existing clients.
• Develop your written communication skills by preparing professional client correspondence.
• Build confidence speaking with clients and insurers, helping to answer queries and gather information, both via email and during phone calls.
• Learn how to build long‑term relationships and provide excellent customer service.
• Support with maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date client records.
• Learn how amendments to insurance policies are managed as well as the policy renewals process.

Who are we looking for?

No insurance experience is needed; we’ll teach you everything you need to know!

You’ll be:

• A final year or recent school, sixth form or college leaver.
• Confident communicating with a wide range of people, including over the phone.
• Resilient, take challenges in your stride and enjoy working in fast paced environments.
• Curious and motivated to learn, with a genuine interest in developing your knowledge and skills.
• Energised by targets and committed to delivering results, even when situations become challenging.
• Someone who enjoys building positive relationships and working with others.

To be eligible for our apprenticeship, you must:

• Have the full and unrestricted right to work in the UK.
• Have lived permanently in the UK for the last 3 years.
• Have achieved a grade C/4 in GCSE English and Maths.
• Not already hold a qualification that significantly overlaps with the content of this apprenticeship.
