Job summary

Howden in Birmingham is offering a permanent apprenticeship in our Claims team, designed to develop your technical knowledge, professional skills and confidence to launch your career.

Starting with a structured induction, you’ll gain hands-on experience gathering information from clients, learning how policies work, handling calls with customers and supporting follow-ups with insurers to keep claims moving. You’ll also prepare reports and analyse data as part of the programme.

Qualifications

• Eligibility: right to work in the UK.
• Residency: lived in the UK for the last 3 years.
• GCSEs: grade C/4 in English and Maths.
• No overlapping apprenticeship qualifications.

Our Commercial & Schemes team helps a range of businesses protect themselves against the risks they face every day. Our Claims team steps in when something goes wrong and a client needs to use their insurance. Whether they have experienced damage, an accident or another unexpected event, we guide them through the claims process and help them work towards the best possible outcome.

You’ll join Howden on a permanent role and complete an 18-month development programme designed to develop your technical knowledge, professional skills and confidence to kick start your career.

What you’ll be doing?

You will begin with a structured induction before joining our Claims team, where you will work alongside experienced colleagues and gradually take on more responsibility.

During the programme, you'll:

• Support Claims Handlers and Executives by gathering information from clients about their claims.
• Gain hands-on experience learning how insurance policies work and how cover is assessed for different client claims.
• Learn how to handle calls with clients and deliver excellent customer service.
• Support the team with following up with clients and insurers to keep claims moving.
• Help prepare reports and analyse data.

Who are we looking for?

No insurance experience is needed; we’ll teach you everything you need to know!

You’ll be:

To be eligible for our apprenticeship, you must:

• Have the full and unrestricted right to work in the UK.
• Have lived permanently in the UK for the last 3 years.
• Have achieved a grade C/4 in GCSE English and Maths.
• Not already hold a qualification that significantly overlaps with the content of this apprenticeship.
