Job summary

Howden in London offers a permanent apprenticeship in Personal Lines, starting with an 18-month development programme and a base salary of £23,000.

You will work in the office at least 4 days per week in Tooting, learning the foundations of insurance, building client relationships and gaining a Level 3 insurance qualification. The programme prepares you for a fully office-based role after completion, with opportunities to support sales and renewals.

Qualifications

• No prior insurance experience required.
• GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or higher.
• Must have right to work in the UK and have lived in the UK for 3 years.
• Not currently holding a qualification that significantly overlaps with this apprenticeship.

Location: Tooting

Duration: You'll join us in a permanent role from day one while completing an 18-month development programme

Structure: You're expected to work in the office at least 4 days per week for the duration of your apprenticeship and must live within a commutable distance. After completing your apprenticeship, you will be expected in the office 5 days a week, as this is a fully officebased role.

Our Personal Lines division operates across more than 100 high street branches and offices, supporting individuals and families protect the things that matter most. From home, car, private medical and critical illness cover, we deliver specialist personal insurance solutions and find the best possible cover, price and terms for our clients.

Join our supportive and high-performing Sales team and help connect clients with the insurance solutions they need. You'll gain hands-on experience in sales, learn how to build strong client relationships, and develop the skills needed to win new business in a fast paced, target-driven environment.

You'll join Howden on a permanent role and complete an 18-month development programme designed to develop your technical knowledge, professional skills and confidence to kick start your career.

What you'll be doing?

You will begin with a structured induction before joining our Personal Lines team, where you will work alongside experienced colleagues and gradually take on more responsibility.

During the programme, you'll:

• Learn the foundations of insurance, customer service and sales through hands-on experience and structured training.
• Support colleagues in finding suitable insurance solutions for new and existing clients.
• Play an active role in achieving sales goals by securing new business opportunities and supporting client renewals.
• Develop your written communication skills by preparing professional client correspondence.
• Build confidence speaking with clients and insurers, helping to answer queries and gather information, both via email and during phone calls.
• Learn how to build long-term relationships and provide excellent customer service.
• Support with maintaining accurate and up-to-date client records.
• Learn how amendments to insurance policies are managed as well as the policy renewals process.

Who are we looking for?

No insurance experience is needed; we'll teach you everything you need to know!

You'll be:

• A final year or recent school, sixth form or college leaver.
• Confident communicating with a wide range of people, including over the phone.
• Resilient, take challenges in your stride and enjoy working in fast paced environments.
• Curious and motivated to learn, with a genuine interest in developing your knowledge and skills.

To be eligible for our apprenticeship, you must:

• Have the full and unrestricted right to work in the UK.
• Have lived permanently in the UK for the last 3 years.
• Have achieved a grade C/4 in GCSE English and Maths.
• Not already hold a qualification that significantly overlaps with the content of this apprenticeship.
