Qualifications

• 5+ years in an MSP or project-delivery focused role.
• Expertise in on-prem virtualization (Hyper-V) and migrations (VMware↔Hyper-V).
• Strong Windows Server stack knowledge and security implementation.
• Experience with backup/DR (Veeam, Acronis) across virtual environments.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert-level 3rd-line support across hypervisor, storage, networking and security.
• Lead end-to-end infrastructure projects (VMware↔Hyper-V migrations, ESXi upgrades, P2V/V2V, SAN/NAS, on-prem to hybrid).
• Interact with clients to understand on-prem needs and guide technical implementations.
• Mentor junior engineers on virtualization best practices and troubleshooting.
• Design and implement security solutions including firewalls and endpoint protection.
• Maintain documentation, runbooks and DR plans; provide performance reports and recommendations.

Infrastructure Solutions Engineer (On Prem) - London

Role Overview

Our client is seeking a motivated Infrastructure Solutions Engineer with deep expertise in on-premises virtualisation - specifically Microsoft Hyper-V - to join their growing team. The role involves leading 3rd-line support, managing complex client infrastructures, and delivering strategic on-prem and hybrid IT solutions. The Solutions Engineer will act as a technical leader within the team, mentoring junior engineers and ensuring the highest levels of service.

Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership & Troubleshooting: Provide expert-level support across VMware and Hyper-V environments, physical server infrastructure, networking, and security. Act as the primary escalation point for the engineering team.
• Project Ownership: Lead end-to-end infrastructure projects - including VMware-to-Hyper-V migrations, ESXi upgrades, P2V/V2V migrations, SAN/NAS deployments, and on-prem to hybrid cloud transitions - ensuring successful and timely delivery.
• Client Interaction: Work closely with clients to understand their on-premises infrastructure needs and provide tailored solutions. Manage expectations and guide clients through technical implementations.
• Team Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers on virtualisation best practices, troubleshooting methodologies and career development.
• Security & Compliance: Lead the design and implementation of security solutions including firewalls, endpoint protection, and network segmentation across on-prem environments.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain thorough documentation of virtualisation configurations, runbooks, and DR plans. Provide clients with performance reports and infrastructure recommendations.

Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft Hyper-V essential- including Failover Clustering, Live Migration, Replica, and Virtual Switch configuration - is essential
• Experience with P2V, V2V, and cross-platform migrations (VMware - Hyper-V)
• Expert knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPOs and WDS
• In-depth experience with backup and DR solutions (Veeam in particular, plus Cove and Acronis) across virtualised environments
• Proficient in storage solutions including Dell PowerVault and Synology (LUNs, RAID, iSCSI, storage pools)
• Strong networking skills: VLANs, subnetting, TCP/IP, LAGs, VPNs, and firewall management (Fortinet, Juniper, Watchguard, Palo Alto)
• Experience with Microsoft Azure (Azure AD, Virtual Machines, Azure Backup) as a complement to on-prem infrastructure
• Experience with endpoint protection platforms including Microsoft Defender and Sophos

The Package

• 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm
