Job summary

UK Power Networks is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer in Crawley to join the Engineering Design - Capital Programme. This permanent role offers a salary of £84,160 plus car and a 3% bonus, with blended working after a 6‑month probation (3 days in office, 2 remote).

You will produce and assure high quality electrical designs to agreed scope, meeting CDM and UKPN standards across contestable and non-contestable works, collaborating in a diverse team to deliver design excellence.

Qualifications

• Electrical engineering background and experience; knowledge of power system and protection design at 132kV, 33kV, 11kV and intermediate voltages.
• Knowledge of design processes and standards (DNO, ENA, international) for delivering designs.
• Can approve designs in specific area.
• CDM Regulations awareness and application.
• Work unsupervised; set and meet targets; identify cost-saving solutions.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD; Bentley software beneficial.
• Degree level or equivalent in engineering or science.

Responsibilities

• Produce electrical designs constructible in compliance with standards and CDM requirements.
• Deliver designs conforming to Codes of Practice and company/industry standards for substations.
• Contribute to technical, commercial and procurement documents.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations and procedures.
• Follow design assurance and audit processes.
• Prepare concept and developed design from specifications and drawings.
• Provide excellent customer service.
• Collaborate with operational teams for smooth enquiry to energisation and project closure.
• Coordinate multi-disciplinary design with external organisations.
• Reduce hazards and risks in design.
• Mentor team members to share knowledge.
• Engage with external engineering organisations and customers/partners.
