Job summary

Milton Keynes City Council is seeking an IT Infrastructure Engineer to support server and desktop environments, ensuring secure and resilient systems for local services.

The role involves providing third-line technical support, owning infrastructure platforms and maintaining core services across security, patching and Microsoft technologies. A flexible, partly home-working arrangement is possible with weekly office presence.

• Proven experience of virtualisation technologies and Windows server environments.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
• Experience translating technical information into plain English for colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Provide third line technical support across server infrastructure.
• Support and manage infrastructure platforms, including system configuration.
• Maintain core services such as security, compliance, messaging, patching and Microsoft technologies.
• Take ownership of support requests, diagnose faults and resolve technical issues.
• Work with service desk colleagues, service teams and users to ensure continuous service delivery.
• Support and maintain virtual infrastructure and security systems, including upgrades, backups and threat monitoring.
