Job summary

Spectrum IT Recruitment is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to build and modernise a TypeScript/Node.js platform. Based in Southampton, you’ll work on APIs, integrations and cloud migrations to support international expansion.

The role emphasizes ownership, collaboration and using AI-assisted development to accelerate delivery while maintaining reliability and data consistency across high-volume systems.

Qualifications

• Commercial experience with TypeScript, Node.js, APIs and distributed systems.
• Understanding of cloud-based development and ability to work independently.
• Interest in AI-assisted development to boost productivity without compromising quality.
• Experience with Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Terraform, Pub/Sub or C# is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop backend services and APIs using TypeScript and Node.js.
• Build reliable integrations with third-party systems.
• Solve distributed systems challenges involving retries, failures and data consistency.
• Modernise existing applications and migrate services to Google Cloud.
• Use AI-assisted development and agentic workflows to accelerate delivery.
• Take ownership of development through to deployment and production support.
