Job summary

Spectrum IT Recruitment is hiring a Backend Software Engineer to join a software engineering team already using AI-assisted development to build and modernise business-critical systems in Southampton. You will focus on TypeScript, Node.js, APIs and Google Cloud while contributing to international expansion projects.

Join a hybrid role with 2 days in the office per week, working on API integrations and distributed systems. You will own development from code to production support.

Qualifications

• Commercial experience with TypeScript, Node.js, APIs and distributed systems.
• Understanding of cloud-based development and AI-assisted development interest.
• Experience with Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Terraform, Pub/Sub or C# is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Develop backend services and APIs using TypeScript and Node.js.
• Build reliable integrations with third-party systems.
• Solve distributed systems challenges involving retries, failures and data consistency.
• Modernise existing applications and migrate services to Google Cloud.
• Use AI-assisted development and agentic workflows to accelerate delivery.
• Take ownership of development through to deployment and production support.
