Job summary

National Grid is recruiting two skilled engineers to maintain and overhaul critical electrical transmission equipment across substations. The role is hands-on, outdoors, and often at height, involving diagnosing faults, replacing worn parts, and installing refurbished gear.

Training at the Eakring Centre will develop high-voltage expertise. Expect a 37-hour week with paid overtime and a competitive package, including a company car from home to work, a pension, and generous holiday allowance.

Qualifications

• Recognised apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Engineering/Mechanical with relevant fitting experience.
• Strong mechanical/electrical maintenance, overhaul or installation experience.
• Experience stripping, rebuilding and repairing plant and equipment.
• Confidence using hand tools, power tools, precision measuring equipment and torque tools.
• A proactive approach to fault finding and problem solving.
• A full UK driving licence and commitment to safe working practices.

Responsibilities

• Strip, inspect and rebuild mechanical components.
• Diagnose faults and carry out repairs.
• Replace worn components including bearings and seals.
• Install new or refurbished equipment.
• Support planned maintenance and emergency breakdown response.
• Perform routine inspections and condition monitoring.
