National Grid is recruiting two Mechanical Fitters to maintain, repair and overhaul electrical equipment at substations across the Solent area, including Southampton, Bournemouth and Portsmouth. The role is outdoors and may involve working at height and occasional stays away for training.

You will join a team focused on keeping the electricity transmission network safe and reliable, with hands-on mechanical work and substantial field duties.

Qualifications

• Recognised apprenticeship in Engineering/Mechanical or NVQ/Level 3 with relevant industrial fitting experience.
• Strong mechanical/electrical maintenance, overhaul or installation experience.
• Experience stripping, rebuilding and repairing plant and equipment.
• Confidence using hand tools, power tools, precision measuring equipment and torque tools.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Within 40 minutes travel to Southampton SO16 0AA, Bournemouth BH21 6SE or Portsmouth PO8 9LA.
• Confidence using a computer and iPad.

Responsabilités

• Maintaining, repairing and overhauling electrical equipment in substations.
• Stripping, inspecting and rebuilding mechanical components.
• Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs.
• Replacing worn and ageing components including bearings, seals and moving parts.
• Installing new or refurbished equipment.
• Supporting planned maintenance and emergency breakdown response.
• Performing routine inspections and condition monitoring.
