Job summary

National Grid is seeking a mechanically biased fitter to maintain, repair and overhaul high-voltage substation equipment. You will work outdoors, often at height, and on a range of machinery including circuit breakers, transformers and air systems.

The role includes training at our facilities and occasional away-from-home trips with allowances. The ideal candidate has a recognised mechanical apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3, strong maintenance experience and a proactive fault-finding mindset.

Qualifications

• Recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship or NVQ/Level 3 with fitting experience.
• Strong mechanical maintenance, overhaul or installation experience.
• Experience stripping, rebuilding and repairing plant and equipment.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, measuring devices and torque tools.
• Proactive fault finding and problem solving approach.
• Commitment to safe working practices and ability to work at height.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Comfort using computer and iPad.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair and overhaul equipment in National Grid substations.
• Diagnose faults and carry out repairs to mechanical components.
• Replace worn components such as bearings, seals and fasteners.
• Install new or refurbished equipment and support planned maintenance.
• Participate in emergency breakdown responses and routine inspections.
