Job summary

National Grid is expanding its team to maintain critical substation infrastructure across the region. This peripatetic role involves regular travel, with a 30‑minute commute to Capenhurst and occasional stays away from home, supported by mobility allowances.

You will gain industry‑leading training at the Eakring Training Centre in Nottinghamshire and contribute to safe, reliable power delivery while building high‑voltage engineering expertise on the job.

Qualifications

• A Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Proactive fault finding and problem solving.
• Commitment to safe working practices and working at height.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Confidence using a computer and iPad.

Responsibilities

• Carry out installation, refurbishment, maintenance, fault finding and repair across high‑voltage substation plant and equipment.
• Diagnose electrical faults and support safe restoration of HV assets.
• Operate as a Competent Person under National Grid Safety Rules and manage safety documentation.
• Undertake Person in Charge (PIC) responsibilities and ensure compliance.
• Apply risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work to maintain high safety standards.
• Monitor condition and performance of equipment and recommend corrective actions.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.

Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering (apprenticeship/NVQ)
