Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking an experienced Primary Design Engineer to deliver substation infrastructure within Scotland's transmission network. You will take primary design from feasibility through to plant specifications for 33kV to 400kV projects.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualification HNC Electrical Engineering.
• Experience of substation design and understanding of the key interfaces with other disciplines.
• Experience of small, medium and technically complex new substation, retrofit or network reinforcement projects.
• Proven experience in HV and EHV substation design (both AIS & GIS), from 33kV up to 400kV.
• Knowledge of engineering standards and technical policies for HV and EHV plant and ancillary equipment in transmission substations.
• An ability to interpret technical documentation relating to the design of electrical substations.
• Design cost estimation experience.
• The ability to travel as per project needs.

Responsibilities

• Produce a comprehensive suite of design drawings for transmission level substations.
• Prepare technical specifications for Electrical plant and provides associated electrical designs for substation upgrades and new substations from 33kV to 400kV.
• Produce substation design feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts, GA's and plant specifications (transformers, switchgear, batteries).
• Review designs from suppliers and clients for compliance with standards and policies.
• Ensure designs are delivered per contract and client specs.
• Undertake CDM/Principal Designer roles for HV and EHV projects.
• Identify and manage Health & Safety risks with the project team.
• Attend site meetings to support design changes during build.
