Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking an experienced Primary Design Engineer to deliver substation infrastructure across Scotland's transmission projects. You will lead primary design from feasibility through to detailed design for 33kV to 400kV substations, including new builds and upgrades.

The role requires HV/EHV design experience, strong interface with other disciplines, and a proactive approach to safety and client engagement. Hybrid working and national travel are supported.

Qualifications

• Experience in substation design and interfaces with other disciplines.
• Experience on small, medium and complex substations and network reinforcement projects.
• Proven HV and EHV substation design experience (33kV–400kV) including AIS & GIS.

Responsibilities

• Produce comprehensive design drawings for transmission substations.
• Prepare electrical plant specifications for 33kV–400kV projects.
• Prepare feasibility reports, layouts, GA's and plant specs (transformers, switchgear, battery systems).
• Review supplier and client designs for technical compliance with legislation and policies.
• Ensure designs meet contract, programme and client specifications.
• Act as CDM/Principal Designer for HV/EHV projects.
• Identify and manage Health and Safety risks with the project team.
• Attend site meetings to support design changes during construction.
• Align project design with programme, quality and margin.
• Develop external and internal client relationships.
• Travel to project sites as required.
