Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking an electrical engineer to design HV/EHV substations and deliver comprehensive technical packages from 11kV up to 132kV. You will produce drawings, specifications and feasibility studies, and review supplier and client designs for compliance.

You will also take on CDM Designer or Principal Designer responsibilities, manage health and safety risks, attend site meetings, and help develop strong client relationships across projects.

Qualifications

• HNC Electrical Engineering qualification required.
• Exposure to substation cable design, protection and control.
• Experience with HV and EHV substations (11kV–132kV).
• Ability to interpret technical documentation for substation design.
• Design cost estimation experience.
• Strong understanding of HS and CDM requirements and roles.

Responsibilities

• Produce a comprehensive suite of design drawings for Grid and Primary substations.
• Prepare technical specifications for electrical plant and substation upgrades (11kV–132kV).
• Produce feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts, GA’s and plant specs (transformers, switchgear, battery systems).
• Review designs from suppliers/clients for compliance with standards and legislation.
• Ensure designs meet contract, programme, quality and margin requirements.
• Undertake CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer roles for HV/EHV projects.
• Identify and manage health and safety risks with the project team.
• Attend site meetings to support design changes during build.
• Develop client relationships (external and internal).
• Travel as per project needs.
