Job summary

WSP is seeking a Primary Design Engineer to lead HV/EHV substation design from feasibility through to plant specifications and detailed design across 33kV to 400kV. You will deliver design drawings, technical specifications, feasibility reports, and cost estimates while coordinating with suppliers and clients.

Travel to site and collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams are key parts of the role, supporting major transmission projects within the UK and Ireland.

Qualifications

• Experience in substation design and understanding interfaces with other disciplines.
• Proven experience in HV and EHV substations design (AIS & GIS) from 33kV to 400kV.
• Knowledge of engineering standards for HV/EHV plant and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Produce design drawings for transmission level substations.
• Prepare technical specifications for electrical plant and substations upgrades and new substations (33kV–400kV).
• Produce feasibility reports, layouts, GA's and plant specifications including transformers, switchgear and batteries.
• Review designs for technical compliance with current legislation and policies.
• Undertake CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer roles for HV/EHV projects.
• Attend site meetings to support design changes during construction.
• Ensure design work aligns with programme, quality, and margin.
• Develop external and internal client relationships.
