Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking an experienced HV/EHV Substation Designer to join a global engineering team. You will design substations from 11kV up to 132kV, prepare plant specifications and cost estimates, and review designs for compliance with current standards and client requirements.

You will act as CDM Designer/Principal Designer where needed, manage health and safety aspects, and travel to project sites to support design changes during construction.

Qualifications

• HV & EHV substation design experience
• Exposure to protective relays and protection & control concepts
• Experience on small to complex substation projects (new, retrofit, reinforcement)
• Experience in HV & EHV substation design (AIS & GIS) from 11kV to 132kV
• Knowledge of HV/EHV plant standards and earthing
• Ability to interpret technical substation documentation
• Design cost estimation experience
• HS and CDM compliance knowledge and ability to act as Designer/Principal Designer

Responsibilities

• Produce comprehensive design drawings for Grid and Primary substations.
• Prepare specifications for electrical plant and substation upgrades 11kV–132kV.
• Produce feasibility reports, layouts, GA’s and plant specifications.
• Review designs for compliance with legislation and policies.
• Deliver designs in line with contract requirements and client satisfaction.
• Perform CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer roles for HV/EHV projects.
• Identify and manage H&S risks with the project team.
• Attend site meetings to support design changes during construction.
• Ensure design work aligns with programme, quality and margin.
• Develop client relationships both externally and internally.
• Travel as required by project needs.
