Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking an electrical substation design engineer to deliver HV and EHV projects across the UK. You will provide design drawings, technical specifications, and feasibility reports for substations from 11kV up to 132kV.

You will review supplier designs for compliance, ensure adherence to HS and CDM requirements, and support client relationships while traveling to project sites as needed. The firm supports hybrid working and career development.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualification HNC Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in HV and EHV substation design (AIS & GIS) from 11kV up to 132kV.
• Experience on substation projects (new or retrofit) and network reinforcement.
• Knowledge of HV/EHV plant standards and earthing.
• Ability to interpret technical substation documents.

Responsibilities

• Produce comprehensive design drawings for Grid and Primary substations.
• Prepare technical specifications for Electrical plant for substation upgrades and new substations from 11kV to 132kV.
• Produce substation design feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts, GA’s and plant specifications.
• Review designs from suppliers and clients for technical compliance with legislation and policies.
• Deliver designs in line with contract requirements and client specifications.
• Undertake CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer roles for HV/EHV projects.
• Identify and manage HS risks with the project team.
• Attend site meetings to support design changes during build.
• Align project design with programme, quality and margin.
• Develop external and internal client relationships.
