Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Director - HV Cable System Design to lead high‑voltage cabling solutions for AIS, GIS substations, HVDC interconnectors and energy storage projects in the UK and Europe. You will drive FEED and detailed design, perform critical cable calculations, and ensure compliance with CDM and safety standards.

You will guide interfaces across engineering teams, clients and subcontractors, supervise site activities, and contribute to tender and project delivery with a focus on quality

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Power Engineering.
• Experience in consultancy, contractor or utility in energy.
• Extensive experience in cable design for FEED and detailed design.
• Ability to lead HV/EHV cable designs across project stages.

Responsibilities

• Develop HV/EHV cabling system specifications, conceptual and detailed design, estimation, site supervision and support.
• Provide technical support on HV cable system engineering and design.
• Prepare plant/equipment specs, cable route specs, tender specs, reports.
• Ensure interface with other engineering functions and attend meetings with clients/subcontractors.
• Perform calculations: cable size, rating, TMF/EMF, sheath-induced voltage.
• Conduct design reviews and verification, ensure CDM/compliance with regulations.
• Assist with temporary works design schemes and FAT support.
• Maintain client/designer/supply‑chain relations and ensure constructability of drawings/specs.
• Ensure inspection and test plans are completed per PMP/Spec and document quality.
• Advise on setting out methods, risk assessments, and method statements.
