Job description

Senior Associate Director HV Cable System Design Engineer

Jacobs is playing a leading role in the global energy transition. As our UK and Continental Europe team continues to expand, we are seeking a Principal Cable System Engineer to support a range of high‑profile projects across our Power & Energy portfolio. This includes high‑voltage AIS and GIS substations, transmission system assets, HVDC interconnectors, and energy storage systems.

Responsibilities
  • Develop HV/EHV cabling system specifications, concept/detailed design, design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
  • Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
  • Prepare plant and equipment technical specifications, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
  • Ensure correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions; attend and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, TMF and EMF calculations, sheath‑induced voltage calculations and others.
  • Perform design reviews, verification of design.
  • Ensure all project designs are compliant with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.
  • Assist with temporary works design schemes.
  • Maintain good working relations with client, designer, team and supply chain.
  • Ensure drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction; formally request missing information promptly.
  • Ensure inspection and test plans are completed as required by the PMP/specification, including dimension accuracy and quality checks.
  • Support factory inspection tests (FAT).
  • Establish and promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHQE department.
  • Advise engineers on setting‑out methods and techniques.
  • Prepare written risk assessments and method statements for the control of the works.
