Central Bedfordshire Council is seeking an experienced Repairs Manager to lead responsive maintenance across its housing portfolio. You will oversee day‑to‑day repairs, contractor performance and procurement activity to ensure value for money and high outcomes for residents.

The role focuses on safe, well‑managed homes with strong leadership, budget oversight and regulatory compliance. Hybrid working pattern, with on‑site attendance as required.

  • Confidence working with housing management, compliance or FM systems
  • Relevant qualification in facilities management, property services or building maintenance

  • Put resident satisfaction at the heart of service delivery, resolving issues promptly and effectively

Team: Housing Property
Job Family: Enabling M – CBG13
Salary: £52,413 - £56,675 per annum pro rata + £5,500 MRS per annum pro rata
Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month.
Contract Type: Hybrid - Permanent

We are seeking an experienced, proactive Repairs Manager to lead the delivery of all responsive maintenance activity across Central Bedfordshire’s Councils housing portfolio.

This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring that all buildings in our portfolio are safe, legally compliant, and maintained to consistently high standards. You will oversee day‑to‑day repairs, contractor performance, and procurement activity, ensuring value for money and excellent outcomes for residents.

Working closely with internal teams, external contractors, and partner agencies, you will play a central role in maintaining high levels of tenant satisfaction, prompt repairs delivery, and the effective management of communal areas, building services, and landlord responsibilities.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional who understands the complexities of managing social housing, temporary accommodation, and mixed‑tenure residential blocks.

About You

We are looking for a confident, skilled Repairs & Maintenance professional with strong sector knowledge and a commitment to delivering safe, well‑managed homes. You will bring:

  • Strong leadership and team‑management skills, with the ability to drive performance
  • Excellent organisational, analytical and problem‑solving abilities
  • In‑depth understanding of statutory compliance, landlord obligations and building safety regulations
  • Experience in block management, residential property management or social/temporary accommodation management
  • Proven ability to manage contractors, SLAs, procurement processes and performance monitoring
  • Strong budget management skills and experience reporting on cost control and expenditure
  • Confidence working with housing management, compliance or FM systems
  • Relevant qualification in facilities management, property services or building maintenance (desirable but not essential if backed by strong experience)
Essential Requirements:
  • Experience: A proven background in a management position responsible for housing repairs and maintenance services.
  • Knowledge: Extensive understanding of Schedule of Rates, British Standards, and the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974).
  • Skills: Strong people management, ability to produce technical feasibility studies, and IT literacy.
  • Leadership: Ability to coach and develop staff while managing multi‑disciplinary projects.
  • Logistics: A full valid driving licence and the willingness to attend onsite meetings.
