Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking a motivated Housing Options Officer to join the Housing Needs Service in Selby. You will support individuals and families facing housing difficulties, provide advice, guidance and practical help to prevent homelessness and secure suitable accommodation across North Yorkshire.

Key duties include assessing homelessness applications, developing personalised housing plans, negotiating with landlords, and carrying out home visits while maintaining accurate records

Responsibilities

• Assess homelessness applications and determine statutory duties under homelessness legislation.
• Develop personalised housing plans to prevent or relieve homelessness.
• Provide advice on housing options including social housing, private rented accommodation and other solutions.
• Negotiate with landlords, lenders, family members and support agencies to prevent homelessness.
• Carry out home visits and customer appointments across the county.
• Work with partner organisations including social care, health, and housing providers.
• Manage casework from enquiry to resolution with a professional, responsive service.
• Maintain accurate records and protect sensitive data.
