Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking a Housing Options Officer to support customers facing housing challenges by providing practical advice and guidance to secure suitable accommodation.

You will assess homelessness applications, develop personalised housing plans, and negotiate with landlords and partners to prevent homelessness while maintaining accurate case records across Selby and the wider county.

Qualifications

• Candidate must demonstrate empathy and patience when supporting customers.
• Strong communication skills for explaining options and options clearly.
• Ability to negotiate with landlords and partners to resolve housing issues.

Responsibilities

• Assess homelessness applications and determine statutory duties.
• Develop personalised housing plans to prevent or relieve homelessness.
• Provide advice on housing options including social housing and private rented accommodation.
• Negotiate with landlords, lenders, family members and support agencies.
• Support vulnerable customers through complex circumstances.
• Conduct home visits and customer appointments across the county.
• Work with partner organisations including social care, health services and housing providers.
• Manage casework from enquiry to resolution with accurate records and data protection compliance.
• Travel as required; participate in out-of-hours service on a rota basis.
