Job summary

North Northamptonshire Council is seeking an experienced Housing Options Advisor to join the Housing Solutions service. You will provide specialist housing advice, homelessness prevention, triage and casework to households who are homeless or at risk, focusing on initial homelessness assessments and establishing eligibility.

You will work with families and vulnerable households, coordinating with landlords and external agencies to secure suitable accommodation and support.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working with vulnerable customers.
• Ability to assess homelessness and housing needs.
• Experience managing a caseload.

Responsibilities

• Act as a first point of contact for customers who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.
• Conduct initial homelessness and housing needs assessments.
• Assess eligibility, homelessness and priority need, and determine statutory duties.
• Provide advice in line with homelessness legislation and council policies.
• Take action to prevent homelessness by negotiating with landlords and identifying alternatives.
• Complete Full Housing Assessments (FHAs) and develop Personal Housing Plans (PHPs).
• Manage a varied caseload and ensure timely progression of cases.
• Collaborate with landlords, letting agents, and external agencies.
• Coordinate multi-agency meetings to address housing, safeguarding and support needs.
