Job summary

Nottinghamshire Hospice is seeking a Head of Community Services to provide operational and clinical leadership for our community-based palliative and end-of-life care services. You will drive excellence in care delivery, workforce development, and stakeholder engagement, acting as a senior clinical resource for complex cases.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse, Allied Health Professional, or other Registered Healthcare Professional with current professional registration.
• Degree-level qualification in a relevant healthcare discipline (or equivalent experience).
• Evidence of continuing professional development.
• Leadership or management qualification, or willingness to work towards one.
• Specialist qualification or significant experience in palliative and end-of-life care.
• Master’s degree or equivalent advanced study.
• Senior management experience within healthcare, hospice, community, or palliative care services.
• Experience of leading multidisciplinary teams and managing managers.
• Experience of operational and clinical service management.
• Experience of quality improvement, governance, risk management, and service development.
• Experience of managing change and driving service improvements.
• Experience of building effective partnerships with external stakeholders and healthcare organisations.
• Strong understanding of palliative and end-of-life care principles and practice.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational, and resource management skills.
• Ability to analyse data, monitor performance, and implement improvements.
• Commitment to person-centred care and the hospice values.
• Experience of delivering education, training, and workforce development programmes.

Responsibilities

• Provide operational and clinical leadership for community services, ensuring high-quality, safe and responsive palliative care.
• Oversee governance, risk management, safeguarding, incident reporting and quality assurance in community services.
• Lead workforce planning and recruitment, ensuring staffing and resources meet service objectives.
• Manage budgets and resources in collaboration with senior colleagues.
• Foster an inclusive, high-performing culture and staff wellbeing across teams.
• Build and maintain partnerships with NHS, care providers, commissioners and voluntary sectors.
• Champion equity, diversity and inclusion in all people practices.
• Lead on investigations, service feedback responses and inspections readiness.
• Support education and professional development across the service.
