Job summary

AECOM Limited in St Albans is offering a Civil Engineering Apprentice role within the Highways & Streets team. You will gain practical experience across design, modelling and site work while pursuing structured academic study and professional qualifications.

You’ll support engineers in developing road schemes, traffic solutions and active travel infrastructure, with access to AutoCAD, Civil 3D and BIM tools, under guidance in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• GCSEs (Maths and English) at grade C/4 or above.
• Three A-Levels including Maths and Physics or equivalent for Degree Apprenticeship eligibility.
• Interest in highway civil engineering and transport infrastructure developments.
• Aptitude for technical drawing, engineering design and digital tools.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and independently when required.
• Willingness to learn and develop new technical skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design drawings, plans and documentation using CAD software.
• Support highway and traffic engineering scheme development from feasibility to detail design.
• Assist with roads, junctions and pedestrian/cycle infrastructure design.
• Develop highway layouts per design standards and specifications.
• Assist with site visits, surveys and information collection.
• Analyze survey data and existing highway conditions to inform design.
• Prepare technical reports, calculations and presentation materials.
• Use CAD/Civil 3D and BIM tools in project development and delivery.
• Maintain project records and assist with administration.
• Collaborate with engineers, technicians and project managers to deliver quality solutions.
