Purpose of the post

The purpose of the post is to work closely with class teachers to raise the learning and attainment of pupils while promoting their independence, self‑esteem and social inclusion. The role involves providing support to students, both individually and in groups, to help them access the curriculum, fully engage in learning and experience a strong sense of achievement.

Duties and responsibilities

Support the leadership and management of the SEND department

Leading Interventions and Teaching and Learning
  1. To support in the training and line management of CSAs.
  2. To manage the SEND Hub during lessons, break and lunch.
  3. To support with referrals to outside agencies.
  4. To create reviews and update pen portraits.
  5. To liaise with parents, students and outside agencies as directed.
  6. To lead, coordinate and quality assure targeted interventions such as phonics and literacy, social skills, sensory seedlings, therapeutic Lego, ELSA mentoring, Tech skills, study skills, emotional regulation, physio.
  7. To demonstrate an informed and efficient approach to teaching and learning by adopting relevant strategies to increase achievement of all pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
  8. To promote, support and facilitate inclusion by encouraging participation of all pupils in learning and extracurricular activities.
  9. To use effective behaviour management strategies consistently in line with the school’s policy and procedures.
  10. To maintain good order and discipline among pupils, managing behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment.
  11. To organise and manage teaching space and resources to help maintain a stimulating and safe learning environment.
  12. To observe pupil performance and pass observations on to the class teacher.
  13. To use ICT skills to advance pupils’ learning.
  14. To work collaboratively with class teachers to best support student’s progress and attainment.
  15. To lead class teaching with the HUB as and when appropriate.
  16. To direct the work, where relevant, of other adults in supporting learning.
