Job summary

Kautec Recruitment seeks an experienced HGV Workshop Engineer for a Reading site. The role involves inspecting a varied fleet and performing routine maintenance, MOT prep, and repairs to DVSA standards. You will handle chassis, hydraulics, and electrical inspections, contributing to high service quality.

Ideal candidates are fully qualified (City & Guilds/NVQ or equivalent) with strong heavy-vehicle knowledge. IRTEC or EV qualifications are a plus, as is a Class 1 or 2 licence.

Qualifications

• Qualified and time served heavy vehicle technician with thorough understanding of commercial vehicle mechanical dynamics.
• Experience with diagnostics, fault finding and repairs on HGVs and related fleet.
• Willingness to upskill and obtain additional accreditations (IRTEC/EV) would be desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and preventative maintenance on a diverse fleet.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT and service DVSA standards.
• Carry out chassis and fabrication work, hydraulics and pneumatics checks.
• Inspect electrical systems and wiring; diagnose and correct faults.
• Support upskilling and share expertise with colleagues.

HGV Workshop Engineer - Reading

We are looking for qualified and time served Heavy Technicians who can demonstrate a thorough understanding of commercial vehicle mechanical dynamics.

You will be carrying out inspections to a varied and diverse fleet.

You could be working on main dealer heavy goods vehicles (HGV#s) refuse collection vehicles, road sweepers, hook loaders, light commercials (vans), trailers and tippers-

The type of work you can expect to be carrying out includes (but is not limited to)

• Routine (and preventative) maintenance
• MOT preparation
• Scheduled servicing to DVSA standards
• 6 (or 8) weekly inspections
• Correction of running defects
• Chassis and fabrication work
• Hydraulics and pneumatics
• Improvement of vehicle standards
• Electrical and wiring inspections and corrections

Ideally you will be fully qualified (City & Guilds), NVQ or equivalent.

Additional accreditations such as IRTEC or EV qualification would be desirable, as would a HGV Class 1 or Class 2 licence.
