Job summary

AB Volvo is opening applications for an Apprentice HGV Technician in Peterborough. The role offers a 32‑month Advanced Level Apprenticeship with a 40‑hour week and hands-on training on modern trucks and buses, including hybrid tech.

Selected candidates will attend Inspiro Heavy Vehicle Academy in Derby, complete IMI qualifications, and benefit from employer-covered accommodation, meals and travel. Start dates May or August 2027.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of mechanical systems and a desire to learn.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and keen eye for detail.
• Strong communication skills and a team player mentality.
• Enthusiastic individuals with a strong interest in heavy vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Assist with repairs carried out using Volvo Standard Times and Volvo tools.
• Assist in fault diagnosis processes.
• Learn to use Volvo special tools safely and efficiently.
• Work with parts team to ensure correct replacement parts are fitted.
• Attend college courses and work towards IMI qualifications.
• Record time and complete job cards accurately.
• Report vehicle defects to the workshop supervisor.
