Job summary

Kemp Recruitment Ltd is hiring an HGV Technician in Leyland to perform routine servicing, safety inspections and mechanical repairs on heavy goods vehicles and trailers. You will diagnose issues with advanced equipment and ensure work is completed to DVSA standards with accuracy.

The role emphasizes fault-finding, use of diagnostic tools, and accurate completion of electronic documentation on a tablet. A strong emphasis on quality workmanship and safety is required.

Qualifications

• NVQ/City & Guilds/IMI level in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair required.
• Proven HGV/mechanic experience with fault finding and diagnostics.
• Ability to complete service records and DVSA/VOSA paperwork accurately.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing, safety inspections, pre-MOT prep and repairs to DVSA standards.
• Use advanced diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical and electrical faults.
• Complete electronic job cards and service sheets via a tablet.
• Prepare vehicles for annual MOT and respond to customer downtime needs.
• Maintain clean, safe workspace and adhere to health and safety rules.
• Ensure work is completed right first time to reduce downtime.

Job description

Job Title: HGV Technician

Salary: £45,000 Basic + performance/efficiency bonus + overtime opportunities

Location: Leyland

Hours: Monday - Friday, 4pm to 11pm

Key Responsibilities of the HGV Technician:

• Carry out routine servicing, safety inspections, pre-MOT test preparation, and mechanical repairs on heavy goods vehicles and trailers to DVSA standards.
• Utilise advanced diagnostic equipment to identify and rectify complex mechanical and electrical faults efficiently.
• Ensure work is completed "right first time" to minimise vehicle downtime for our customers.
• Complete electronic job cards, service sheets, and VOSA documentation accurately and thoroughly via a tablet
• Prepare vehicles for annual MOT testing and present them if required.
• Maintain a clean, organised workspace and strictly adhere to all health and safety regulations.

What We're Looking For:

• NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds Level 3, or IMI equivalent in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
• Proven track record working as an HGV Mechanic, Commercial Vehicle Fitter, or Trailer Technician.
• A full manual UK driving licence is required. An HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) licence is preferred but not essential.
• Strong fault-finding capabilities, proficiency with diagnostic tools, and pride in high-quality workmanship.
