Job summary

Evri, the UK's premier parcel delivery company, is seeking a HGV Class 1 Driver in Preston. The role is permanent, 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with shift starts around 7–8am. Salary is £37,042.20 per year. You will drive a Volvo tractor from a modern fleet and be home each night.

You will plan routes with 4–6 stops per shift, handle scanning of consignments, and assist with loading/unloading when required. You will inspect the vehicle daily and report any defects.

Qualifications

• Class 1 driving licence required.
• Driver CPC qualification card (DCPC) with training hours completed or in progress.

Responsibilities

• Drive a lorry from our Volvo fleet and return home after each 9‑hour shift.
• Plan routes with 4–6 stops per shift and often know trip details in advance.
• Scan consignments, sometimes operate pallet trucks, and load/unload as required.
• Inspect vehicle and trailer daily and complete a Defect Report if needed.

What You'll Do:

You will drive a lorry from our exceptional fleet of Volvo vehicles, all less than 4 years old. They're a joy to drive, and are equipped to a high specification, including fridges, leather seats and many more optional extras to make sure you're comfortable.

Most of our sites run from Monday to Friday, with 45 hour working weeks, and 9-hour shifts per day which typically start at 7/8am. Our well-organised shift schedules mean you often know in advance where you'll be driving, taking the stress out of your day.

Key Role Responsibilities

We don't micromanage our drivers. We trust them to get the job done and plan their own routes. The average number of stops in a shift is 4 to 6, so there's plenty of time to enjoy being out on the open road - but you'll still be home again at the end of every 9-hour shift.

You'll make sure Cages, Pallets, Freight, Stillages and Yorks get to and from customers bang on time. At some sites, the goods will be loaded or unloaded for you - at others, you'll need to do it yourself. Scanning consignments and driving pallet trucks will sometimes be part of your day.

You'll be responsible for inspecting your vehicle and trailer every day and complete a Defect Report if necessary.
