Job summary

West Dean College is seeking a part-time Collections Care Officer to join the Collections team. You will help protect and care for the college's historic collections and interiors, working with staff, students and volunteers to maintain high standards of conservation and access.

The role involves practical conservation, environmental monitoring, documentation, training and support for tours and loans, across the college and its sites.

Qualifications

• Practical experience with collections care and preventative conservation.
• Knowledge of environmental monitoring (temp, humidity, light).
• Ability to maintain records and use collections management databases.
• Comfort training colleagues, students and volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Support the Collections Manager in implementing collections care policies and procedures.
• Develop and improve practical collections care standards across the College.
• Ensure collections and historic interiors are cared for in line with best practice.
• Carry out condition checks and report risks or issues.
• Monitor environmental factors and respond to concerns.
• Maintain accurate records using the collections management system.
• Provide guidance and training to colleagues and volunteers.
• Support access to collections, tours and loans.
