Job summary

West Dean College in West Sussex is seeking a Maintenance Joiner & Demonstrator to deliver high-quality joinery, carpentry and building maintenance across the estate. You will support conservation of historic Grade II* buildings and provide practical workshops for students and staff.

The role spans Building Maintenance and Technical Resources, requiring safe workshop operation, health & safety leadership, and technical guidance during teaching sessions.

Qualifications

• Recognised qualification or apprenticeship in Carpentry or Joinery.
• Knowledge of current health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
• Experience working on historic or listed buildings is desirable.
• Experience demonstrating practical skills or providing technical guidance is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive joinery and carpentry maintenance across the College and estate.
• Repair, maintain and install doors, windows, flooring, roofing, partitions, shelving and other building fabric.
• Complete refurbishment and renovation projects to a high standard.
• Use traditional materials and conservation techniques when working on historic buildings.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and report faults with tools and machinery.
• Support students and staff with practical guidance in workshops and teaching sessions.
