Job summary

A healthcare trust providing community services seeks a care assistant to work under the supervision of registered nurses in a prison environment. The successful candidate will assist with patient care, maintain confidentiality, and follow Trust policies. A NVQ Level 2 in care is required along with effective communication skills and the ability to work within a team. Job description

Under the supervision of, and support of, a registered nurse the post holder will carry out delegated tasks for those patients requiring healthcare services within the prison environment.

The prisoners, by their nature, may be unpredictable, have complex needs or be vulnerable, and so can present with varying degrees of challenging behaviour, requiring excellent communication skills. Crisis can present at any time and without warning - demanding the post holder to assist / manage in crisis situations.

Main duties of the job
  • To assist qualified clinicians in appropriate clinics and to carry out assigned tasks involving direct patient care in accordance with their individual competency levels.
  • These tasks will be delegated by a registered nurse.
  • Promote the units philosophy of care
  • Assist the nurse in charge to utilise resources effectively
  • Maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality for prisoners, visitors and staff at all times
  • To follow the Trust Uniform Policy at all times
  • To receive, record and transmit information both orally and in writing.
  • Adhere to the Trusts and departmental policies and procedures.
  • To attend Trust mandatory training and attend development sessions as required
  • Participate in the staff annual review process for the tea
