Job description

Job Title: Head of IT Asset & Configuration Management

Location: Preston with UK-wide travel. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: £100k+ depending on skills and experience, plus car allowance and performance bonus

What you’ll be doing
  • Overseeing the transformation of the asset and configuration management capability through a period of significant change, ensuring continuity and improvement of services throughout this period
  • Design and implement standardised processes across software, hardware, and virtual assets
  • Deploy consistent tooling to provide accurate, actionable asset data
  • Consolidate accountability for all asset management to drive efficiency, reduce risk, and maximise value
  • Lead transformation and continuous improvement of the service during periods of significant change
  • Engage senior stakeholders, including Board-level executives, to articulate the value of IT Asset Management, while collaborating closely with service providers
  • Hold accountability for delivering measurable benefits, including reducing waste, managing risk, and improving commercial efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with high-value software licence agreements across all categories
  • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure the CMDB delivers operational value
  • Drive the development of IT Asset Management services across people, process, and technology
  • Identify opportunities for consolidation with adjacent teams to strengthen capability
  • Ensure the suppliers are compliant with the Asset Management policies and practices
Your skills and experiences
  • Relevant IT or business degree, vocational qualification, or equivalent experience; IAITAM certification (CHAMP, CSAM, CITAM) preferred
  • Extensive experience (8+ years) in IT Asset Management, including software and hardware, with at least 3 years in a senior or similar role
  • Experience in building or transforming an IT Asset Management function and/or service
  • Experience managing the full asset lifecycle, from procurement to disposal, including cloud and on-premises assets
  • Knowledge of software licence compliance, hardware inventory and tracking, and cloud asset visibility (SaaS, IaaS, consumption)
  • Experience in cost optimisation, identifying unused assets, over-licensing, and delivering large cost savings to the business
  • Skilled in governance, policy management, and applying ITSM frameworks (ITIL 4) and best practices in SAM and SACM
  • Ability to use reporting and analytics to provide data-driven visibility over IT spend, risk, and performance
  • Experience managing change in complex environments and engaging with senior stakeholders
  • Experience in using Flexera and ServiceNow (or similar tools) is highly desirable

The team

The Head of IT Asset & Service Configuration Management is accountable for overseeing the full lifecycle of all IT assets. This includes ensuring an accurate inventory is maintained, recording the status, relationships, and ownership of assets, and optimising asset utilisation. The role also ensures compliance with licensing agreements while driving efficiency, risk reduction, and value across the organisation’s IT estate. This position will lead the development of a high-performing, best-practice IT Asset & Configuration Management capability, shaping processes, tooling, and governance to deliver measurable business outcomes.
