Job summary

Wigan and Leigh College is seeking a Lecturer in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering to teach mechanical and electrical engineering qualifications from Level 3 to Level 6 across multiple sites. The role covers planning and delivering lessons, assessing and feeding back on student work, and acting as a personal tutor.

Applicants need a degree or vocational qualification in mechanical engineering or a related area, and an enhanced DBS check is required; a teaching qualification or willingness

Qualifications

• Degree or vocational qualification in mechanical engineering or a related area.
• GCSE English and Maths at grade C or equivalent, which can be gained during probation.
• Teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one with college support.
• Experience with PLCs.
• Up-to-date subject knowledge and strong IT skills for e-learning.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver lessons across Level 3 to Level 6.
• Mark work, give clear feedback and guide students on improvement.
• Use assessment results to shape lessons and support each student's progress.
• Monitor attendance and promote positive behaviour.
• Keep accurate records of student progress, assessments and other administrative duties.
• Act as a personal tutor, giving pastoral advice and guidance.
• Support induction, record achievements and help students plan next steps.
• Take part in open evenings, school liaison and subject-promotion activities.
• Coordinate courses and contribute to departmental initiatives.
• Keep up to date with subject developments and best practices.
