Job description

Unity Engine is used by millions of creators around the world to build powerful and engaging real‑time experiences. At the heart of this is graphics, from the initial point of content creation down to the final pixels on the target device. The Graphics Middle Layer team is looking for a new team member. The team covers a wide range of areas and responsibilities; from the loading, streaming, processing and rendering of meshes to generation and selection of level of details (LOD), to efficient GPU‑driven rendering and batching, to the importing, streaming and processing of textures, to culling techniques and Entities Graphics. In all these areas the team has a big emphasis on performance and scalability. The area forms the foundation for nearly any Unity project and other engine graphics technologies. The team is part of Unity's Graphics Features and Frameworks group whose mission is to build the world’s most scalable, performant and extensible rendering platform. As a graphics engineer, you will be responsible for developing new and maintaining existing mesh and LOD loading, streaming, processing and rendering technologies, including Unity’s GPU‑driven rendering technology stack. In particular, you will be working on improving the GPU resident drawer and batching systems. You will also work on continuously improving the existing tech stacks and code base, existing APIs, and further improving performance. You will be in a position to establish Unity's future tech stack on GPU‑driven rendering, culling, mesh, LOD, and streaming technologies. We’re committed to maintaining a diverse team, and we welcome and encourage applicants with diverse experiences and backgrounds.

  • Helping evolve Unity's rendering systems towards a GPU driven technology stack
  • Participating in other tasks within the team on the Texture area, including working on texture streaming, Unity’s Texture API, Virtual Texturing, texture compression, texture importing, and asynchronous upload pipeline.
  • Participating in code reviews to ensure only high‑quality software is committed.
  • Taking part in technical discussions, investigating complex problems, researching, and collaborating on initiatives
  • Closely collaborating with Product Management, Quality Assurance and UX to ensure the best possible product
Qualifications
