Job summary

AWD online is seeking a Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant in Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire. The role supports students across curriculum subjects within a structured learning environment, assisting with social and academic participation.

• Good standard of numeracy and literacy.
• Ability to work flexibly, independently and collaboratively with teaching and non-teaching staff.
• Commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality and supporting an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Support students individually, in small groups and in class by clarifying instructions, preparing materials, encouraging concentration and helping them complete work.
• Adapt support to students’ individual needs, including language, reading, spelling, handwriting, behaviour and physical needs where required, while promoting independence.
• Deliver early morning catch-up sessions for individual students and small groups as directed by the SENCo.
• Maintain progress records, provide feedback to teachers and contribute to reviews, assessments, IEP targets and learning support programme evaluation.
• Build supportive relationships, promote self-esteem, inclusion and appropriate behaviour, and help students organise themselves, equipment and homework.
• Work with teachers, support colleagues and other professionals, liaising with parents where appropriate and contributing to agreed support programmes.
• Follow safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety, school procedures and statutory training requirements.
• Attend relevant meetings and training, keep up to date with pedagogy, curriculum initiatives and technology, and develop ICT capability to support learning.
