Responsibilities

  • Support students individually, in small groups and in class by clarifying instructions, preparing materials, encouraging concentration and helping them complete work.
  • Adapt support to students’ individual needs, including language, reading, spelling, handwriting, behaviour and physical needs where required, while promoting independence.
  • Deliver early morning catch-up sessions for individual students and small groups as directed by the SENCo.
  • Maintain progress records, provide feedback to teachers and contribute to reviews, assessments, IEP targets and learning support programme evaluation.
  • Build supportive relationships, promote self-esteem, inclusion and appropriate behaviour, and help students organise themselves, equipment and homework.
  • Work with teachers, support colleagues and other professionals, liaising with parents where appropriate and contributing to agreed support programmes.
  • Follow safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety, school procedures and statutory training requirements.
  • Attend relevant meetings and training, keep up to date with pedagogy, curriculum initiatives and technology, and develop ICT capability to support learning.

Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant

SALARY: £25,614 per annum FTE (Actual Salary for 30.1 Hours per Week, Term Time Only, £17,818) + Benefits

LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 30.01 hours per week, term time only (39 weeks). Monday and Thursday 8.30am–4.00pm; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8.30am–3.10pm.

JOB OVERVIEW

As a Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant you will support students across a range of curriculum subjects, working closely with teaching and non-teaching colleagues to help create an inclusive and structured learning environment.

The Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant will help students participate in the social and academic life of the school, encouraging independence, confidence and progress through individual, small-group and classroom support.

This Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant role also involves monitoring progress, supporting learning programmes, reinforcing positive behaviour and self-esteem, and contributing to safeguarding and safe working practices.

The position offers a stepping stone for a graduate considering a career in teaching, while classroom experience would be an advantage rather than a requirement.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant include:
