Are you a recent graduate passionate about education and eager to make a difference in young people s lives?

Astro Education is proud to partner with St Bart s Multi-Academy Trust to deliver a Graduate Teaching Assistant Scheme, designed to provide a structured and supported pathway into a teaching career with a strong emphasis on Special Educational Needs (SEN).

We are seeking enthusiastic and committed graduates with degrees in English, Mathematics, Science, or related subjects (graduates from other disciplines are also encouraged to apply). This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands‑on classroom experience supporting students, including those with additional learning needs, while developing the skills and confidence to progress onto Teacher Training and achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

About the Scheme
  • A structured development programme designed to support your journey from graduate to qualified teacher.
  • You’ll begin in a supportive classroom‑based role, gaining valuable experience in lesson delivery, behaviour management, and student engagement, with a focus on supporting pupils with SEN.
  • Successful graduates will have the opportunity to progress onto a funded Teacher Training Programme within St Bart s Multi-Academy Trust.
  • Receive personalised mentorship, a structured CPD plan, and access to professional development across a network of experienced educators and SEN practitioners.
  • Contribute to an inclusive learning environment, helping all pupils reach their potential.
We’re Looking For
Essential
  • A degree (2:2 or above)
  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 (C) or above.
  • A genuine passion for education and commitment to supporting young people.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive attitude, resilience, and commitment to continuous learning.
Desirable (not essential)
  • Experience working or volunteering in a school or SEN setting.
  • An understanding of how young people learn and classroom dynamics.
  • Creativity, initiative, and a willingness to take on new challenges.

Eligibility

To qualify for this Graduate Scheme, applicants must:

  • Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the programme. (no option for sponsorship)
  • Be a UK resident.
  • Not currently be enrolled in another government‑funded training course.
  • Be willing to apply for an Enhanced DBS Check and complete Astro Education s onboarding and registration in line with DfE requirements.
