Job description

We have a full‑time and/or part‑time position available to join the Imaging department as a Band 2 General Imaging Assistant.

For this post, it is essential that you are able to travel to various community diagnostic centres and mobile scanner sites within the region (currently but not limited to Whitworth (Matlock) and Walton) and be able to work between the hours of 7.30 am and 8 pm (varying shift patterns including weekends and bank holidays).

To assist in the smooth and efficient running of the Imaging Care Unit by providing clinical and administrative support and enhanced clinical skills to deliver a high quality service to all out‑patients. To assist and co‑ordinate the transfer of in‑patients to and from the wards to ensure smooth patient pathways throughout all areas of the Imaging Care Unit. General Imaging Assistants will be expected to rotate throughout all areas and modalities of the Imaging department including shifts based at our satellite hospitals, Whitworth (Matlock) and Walton.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Imaging Team in the care of the patient by:
    • Helping patients undress (if necessary) prior to examination.
    • Assisting during examination/procedures, giving care and reassurance.
    • Assisting patient for discharge and informing of result procedures.
  • Using the computer systems to register and book patients; also attend patients and help prepare them ready for imaging (general reception work).
  • Escort patients to and from the wards and the Emergency Department, when required; when requested, chaperone patients during their examination.
  • Assist with the processing of images and post‑examination documentation.
  • Maintain a tidy and safe department, ensuring rooms are adequately stocked with linen and other materials/equipment.
  • Assist the imaging team in ensuring that the Trust’s Prevention and Control of Infection policies and procedures are implemented and maintained at all times.
  • Have an awareness of the Clinical Governance agenda.
  • Be supportive of research and audit undertaken by other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Assist, guide and reassure patients at all times.
Additional Duties
  • Maintain a safe environment by adhering to local infection control policies.
  • Actively participate in the Staff Development Process Review.
  • Encourage, mentor and train all team members within GIA and CIA teams.
  • Active participation in stock control.
  • Active participation in all audit and continuous improvement.
  • Assist the radiographic team in the care of the patient by:
    • Completing imaging safety questionnaires with all relevant patients.
    • Assessing patients for suitability for cannulation.
    • Immediately feedback to radiographic/nursing/radiologist team any potential problems with cannulae, patient allergies, ECG, etc.
    • Assisting patients for discharge and informing of results procedure.
    • Monitoring patients before and after imaging procedure.
