Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.

Job description

This part-time Functional Skills Tutor role in Oxford involves delivering Maths and English sessions to learners aged 14-19 within an alternative provision setting. Working four days weekly, between 15 and 20 hours, the successful candidate supports young people with EHCPs and additional learning needs. Responsibilities include planning engaging lessons, tracking progress, and helping students achieve qualifications. Strong communication, patience, and behaviour management skills are essential, alongside experience teaching functional skills. The position offers £23.50 per hour plus a 10% allowance for preparation and administration, with an immediate start available.

Functional Skills Tutor (Maths & English) - Alternative Provision Location : Oxford Hours: 15-20 hours per week (4 days per week) Rate: £23.50 per hour + 10% preparation and administration allowance Start Date : Immediate Start Available We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established education provider that delivers specialist alternative provision programmes for young people who require additional support to succeed in education. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Functional Skills Tutor to deliver engaging Maths and English sessions to learners aged 14-19, many of whom have EHCPs and additional learning needs. The role offers the chance to make a genuine impact by helping learners build confidence, achieve qualifications, and progress towards positive outcomes.

The Role You will deliver Functional Skills Maths and English at Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 through a combination of one-to-one and small group sessions. The successful candidate will be able to engage learners who may have previously faced barriers to education, adapting their approach to meet individual learning needs and creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Requirements

• Recognised Teaching Qualification (AET, PTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent)
• Minimum 1 year's experience teaching Maths and/or English
• Experience working within education, training, further education or alternative provision settings
• Experience supporting young people with additional learning needs
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to deliver creative and engaging lessons
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle

• Interest or background in sport
• Knowledge of safeguarding requirements
• Experience working within alternative provision settings
• Knowledge of Functional Skills qualifications and delivery
