Job summary

Pertemps Specialist Talent Solutions is seeking an experienced Functional Skills Tutor in Oxford to deliver Maths and English for learners aged 14-19 with additional learning needs. The role is part-time 15–20 hours weekly with a £23.50/hour rate plus a 10% prep/administration allowance.

You will teach Entry Level to Level 2 Functional Skills, adapt teaching to learners with barriers to education, and help them gain qualifications and progress in education.

Qualifications

• Recognised Teaching Qualification such as AET, PTLLS, Cert Ed or PGCE.
• Minimum 1 year experience teaching Maths and/or English.
• Experience within education, training, FE or alternative provision settings.
• Experience supporting learners with additional learning needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to deliver creative and engaging lessons and strong organisational/time management skills.
• Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Functional Skills Maths and English sessions at Entry Level, Levels 1 and 2.
• Identify learner strengths, gaps and barriers to learning.
• Plan and deliver personalised learning programmes.
• Support learners to achieve and exceed targets.
• Develop learning resources and assessment materials.
• Monitor learner progress and maintain accurate records.
• Conduct regular reviews and provide constructive feedback.

Hours: 15-20 hours per week (4 days per week)

Rate: £23.50 per hour + 10% preparation and administration allowance

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established education provider that delivers specialist alternative provision programmes for young people who require additional support to succeed in education.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Functional Skills Tutor to deliver engaging Maths and English sessions to learners aged 14-19, many of whom have EHCPs and additional learning needs. The role offers the chance to make a genuine impact by helping learners build confidence, achieve qualifications, and progress towards positive outcomes.

The Role

You will deliver Functional Skills Maths and English at Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 through a combination of one-to-one and small group sessions.

The successful candidate will be able to engage learners who may have previously faced barriers to education, adapting their approach to meet individual learning needs and creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Requirements

• Experience supporting young people with additional learning needs
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Interest or background in sport
• Knowledge of safeguarding requirements
• Experience working within alternative provision settings
