Job summary

Chorley Council and South Ribble Borough Council are hiring a Casual Front of House Attendant at Astley Hall. You will welcome visitors, support opening duties and assist with events, activities and family-friendly sessions.

We value friendly, reliable people with good communication who can stay calm in busy periods. Full training will be provided and shifts include weekends, school holidays and occasional evenings.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with people, or the confidence and willingness to engage with others in a customer-facing environment.
• Experience in customer service, hospitality, events or visitor attractions is welcome but not essential.
• An interest in people, culture, heritage, events or visitor attractions.
• No specialist heritage knowledge is required, as full training will be provided.
• A positive attitude and willingness to get involved.

Responsibilities

• Give every visitor a warm, friendly and confident welcome.
• Engage visitors and help create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
• Be a visible and approachable presence throughout the Hall and visitor areas.
• Share useful information about Astley Hall, exhibitions, activities and facilities – you’re not expected to be a heritage expert.
• Help visitors with questions or introduce them to a colleague who can help.
• Support family activities, exhibitions, events and special openings.
• Assist with practical visitor-facing tasks including wayfinding and managing visitor flow.
• Keep in touch with the Duty Manager by radio and raise any concerns promptly.
• Help us make Astley welcoming and accessible to everyone.
