Job summary

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust in Essex is recruiting three Switchboard Operators to cover 30 hours per week across early, late and night shifts. The 24-hour service handles internal and external calls, alarms, reception duties, and taxi bookings.

You will work with Portering, Estates and Security, maintain rotas, respond to emergency alerts, and ensure training is kept up to date in line with Trust requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience handling internal and external calls is desirable.
• Ability to manage reception duties and respond to general enquiries.
• Flexibility to cover varying shifts and bank holiday periods.

Responsibilities

• Handle internal and external telephone calls in a confident, courteous manner.
• Maintain knowledge of switchboard systems and emergency procedures.
• Support Major Incident policy and liaise with external services as needed.
• Undertake reception duties and respond to enquiries efficiently.
• Manage keys, sign-in/out and arrange taxi bookings.
• Monitor hospital alarms and work with Portering, Estates, Security.
• Respond to emergency alerts and complete weekly test calls for Alertive.
